waking up. a shooting near san francisco's union square. three people are shot. one woman is dead. not one but two shootings. a wild fire southern california under control. it threatened some 50 homes. we will tell you about a confession from a teenager who says he started it. and if you are a commuter and go through caldecott tunnel. digging begins on the fourth boar. we will have to wait a few years before we can use it but it is progress. let's get people out the door and progress to work. >> i know. the lights are out in petaluma, just in petaluma, and travelling northbound 101, metering lights, lakeville highway they are off. apparently there is a power outage in the area and all the meters light on ramps in the area are not working. crews are out there now trying

to fix the problem. overnight road work san mateo, several lanes blocked north and southbound. bay bridge toll plaza, nice and light. tracy it was very cold this weekend. >> yes, sunday, -- it was a misty sunday in the san francisco area. temperatures really didn't warm up so much. out the door, low clouds, fog, drizzle for the coast and bay and mostly cloudy conditions areas of low clouds, temperatures lower to mid- to upper 50s. later on this afternoon they will still be unseasonably cool. yeah, cool along the coast, mild inland temperatures lower 80s as highs. close to 15 degrees below average lower 60s around the bay and coastline. warmer weather did some body say something about a warm up? friday, saturday and sunday. elizabeth is going to start to warm up. you will like the weekend.

>> perfect. got to wait a few days. >> back to you sydnie. 5:02 a.m. five people shot in two separate shootings outside night clubs in san francisco. let's go to ann near union square in san francisco where the first of those two shootings happened. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. that shooting was fatal for one woman. you can see the night club ruby sky here behind me. police say that night club was not involved because it was closed last night. there is another comedy club next door. there are businesses all over the place. we are just a couple locks from union square. the first shooting 9:00 p.m., one woman died two other people, a man and woman were injured they are expected toly but were taken to -- to live but were taken to hospital. we don't know if they were targeted or happened to be

passing by. a shooting at 2:00 a.m., just before 2:00 a.m. near a club called 1015 folsom. two women were shot in that incident they are also expected to be okay. that happened at an area called columbia alley. five people injured in two separate shootings here in san francisco near night club districts and one woman has died. >> thank you. ann mac vick in san francisco. same sex couples who want to get married could get the go ahead as early as today. federal judge walker issued a temporary stay to keep the ruling from taking effect immediately. friday, both sides filed with judge walker. they want the judge to lift the stay now. and it is possible the judge will decide today whether to do that. >> the woman who filed a sexual harassment claim against hp

chief mark herd said she never intended for him to lose his job. jodie fisher is an actress who appeared in several movies and a reality television show. this is video from a demo reel she posted on youtube. in a statement she says she is surprised and sad herd was forced to resign from the palo alto tech giant and denies she had sex with herd. the two reached a settlement, a day before he resigned from hp. the liver more mother accused of molesting two teenage boys will face more charges. she allowed a group of 10-year- old boys to shoot pellet guns from her car while she drove them around liver more. she also faces 67 felony counts of having sex with two 15-year-olds. she is scheduled to be in court this afternoon. a major highway project in the east bay reaches a milestone today. they have been preparing and

digging for months now tunnels for the fourth bore begins today. cal tran crews broke ground back in january. since then they have been moving earth and carefully removing fossils. this morning they will have a brief ceremony and a huge new $5 million excavation device will begin digging that bore. construction expected to take three years. academy award winning actress patricia neil has died. she won an oscar in 1963 for her roll in odd. she almost died after suffering three strokes she regained her ability to speak and walk and was able to regain her film can rear. she -- career. she starred in home coming and was a long time spokesperson

good morning traffic nice and light through oakland as you pass the coliseum. a traffic problem up in petaluma. pg&e is sending a crew. more coming up in 6 minutes. thanks very much. 5:09 a.m. a teenager trying to smoke pot is accused of starting at that wild fire in southern california. it threatened dozens of homes in santa la rita before crews contained it. a 14-year-old confessed to accidentally setting the fire while trying to light a bong. he is charged with arson. that fire scorched 40-acres. blown out well in the gulf of mexico could be permanently sealed this week.

last week they filled the top with mud and cement now the cement is hardened bp plans to continue drilling a relief well. they have 100 feet to go. it will be done 20 to 30 feet at a time until they get to the bottom of the well and then also fill that in with mud and cement. bp says it spent about 6 .1 billion dollars to respond to the oil spill. it began april 20th when that oil rig blew up in the gulf of mexico, killing 11 workers, it includes $319 million to settle more than 100,000 claims. there is money for sealing the broken well and drilling relief wells and for grants to gulf coast states. crews are scheduled to begin carving out the fourth bore of the caldecott tunnel. that brings us to our question of the day. what do you think is the worst traffic bottleneck in the bay

weekend. thanks very much. 5:17 a.m. let's look at some stories we are following. a woman was shot to death near union square san francisco, two others wounded. another shooting outside a night club on folsom street south of market. two women taken to hospital with minor injuries in that incident. this morning cal trans starting to dig a tunnel through oakland hills, fourth bore of the caldecott tunnel. it should take three years to dig. academy award winning actress patricia neil died of lung cancer. she won an oscar in 1963 for the film hud and also known for her role as olivia walton in home coming. she was 84 years old. if you are driving in santa rosa, you need to drive carefully, there is a special police patrol going to be in a problem area officers will be watching traffic around

in san francisco. to ann near union square where one of those shootings happened on mason street. this is a big tourist area. >> that's right. we are a block and a half from union square. you can see the night club, ruby sky behind me. this night club was not involved because it was closed last night. there is a comedy club next door. several establishments around this area. this shooting itself happened around 9:00 p.m. at geary and mason. one woman died, two other people, a man and woman were injured. they are expected to live. police don't know if they were targeted or maybe just passing by. it was only around 9:00 p.m. the other shooting of the night happened just before 2:00 a.m. near a club called 1015 folsom. two women were shot in that incident they will be okay and

the exact address of the shooting was on columbia alley i guess, right by that night club 1015 folsom. mayor newsom this week is expected to put into law a new measure cracking down on night clubs allowing licenses to be revoked where people are being unruly or noise complaints. it may prevent more incidents from happening cracking down on night club owners to make sure that all of their patrons are behaving properly even outside of their club but in this circumstance, ruby sky itself was not involved. >> right but as you mention theatres in that area, also other night clubs. >> reporter: yeah. >> thanks very much. ann in san francisco. highway patrol looking for a gunman who fired at a sport utility vehicle interstate 680, this happened before 9 saturday

night east san jose northbound lanes near mckee road. the gunman is described as hispanic in his 20s. black goatee and moustache, wearing a black hooded sweat shirt and in a white chevy trailblazer. >> >> an assisted living facility in oakland laid off 38 workers after a five day strike. those include the unions bargaining team and shop stewards. 150 workers began their strike against piedmont gardens over various issues one week ago today. an attorney for the facilities owner said the laid off workers are not terminated and on a rehire list. same sex couples who want to get married could get the go ahead as early as today. when he ruled against proposition 8 last week, judge walker issued a temporary stay to keep the ruling from taking

effect immediately. friday both sides filed briefs with judge walker so did governor schwarzenegger and attorney general gerry brown. it is possible the judge will decide whether to do that. one year after he disappeared there is still no information about what happened to a 6-year-old east bay boy. an organization formed after he vanished, it open d its new office in san leandro yesterday. citizens for the lost society helped organize searches, vigils and fundraisers ever since hasani campbell went missing. >> i would love to see some body walk through these door doors with him in their arms. do i think this is probable? no. until we have his body we can never be 100% sure. >> his foster parents were briefly arrested on suspicion of murder but let go because of

insufficient evidence. he disappeared from his foster fathers car parked in oakland's rock ridge neighbourhood. the man hunt for two prison escapees suspected in a double homicide is focused on yellowstone national park area. u.s. marshall investigators believe the two men may be hiding in or near the park in montana or wyoming. a woman believed to be an accomplice may be in the area. they are linked to the murders of an oklahoma couple on a remote ranch in new mexico. the blown out well could be permanently sealed this week. last week the top was filled with mud and cement now that it has hardened bp plans to continue drilling a relief well. the drilling will be done 20 to 30 feet at a time until they get to the bottom of the well and then they will also fill that with mud and cement. bp says it spent about 6

>> reporter: in up state new york, sunday, church members remembered tom little. an eye doctor and father of three he worked alongside his wife in afghanistan for more than 30 years that is where he will be buried. >> it is a family decision. our girls felt that should happen that he gave his life in afghanistan s that is where we were called to as a family and that is where he will be buried. >> reporter: bodies of the other victims will return home. among them thomas grand who quit his dental practice in colorado to work full time helping poor children. glen lap, a pennsylvania nurse who arrived in afghanistan in 2008 for a short term assignment but decided to stay, 32-year-old cheryl beckett the daughter of a tennessee pastor who spent six years working in the country. u.s. officials condemn the attack. taliban militants said they killed the aid workers because they were trying to convert

afghans to christianity. the ambassador to afghanistan rejected the claim sunday. the taliban called this group of medical aid workers spies and prosle tasers. they were no such thing. >> reporter: they were travelling without security choosing to spend their money on those they were trying to help. in washington tara mergenner. rescuers in northwestern china digging through mud and debris searching for 1300 people missing amid-the latest flash floods and land slides. 127 people confirmed dead in the provinces of gunsoo already the deadliest incident in mud slides this year. in pakistan people trying to deal with the worst floods there in decades. at least 1600 people dead, another 2 million homeless. land slides are hampering relief efforts many roads in the area have been destroyed.

pakistani navy boats have been sent to the provinces to rescue those stranded by the flood waters. capital of russia covered with thick smog. it has been seeping into homes and offices throughout moscow for several days. air pollution is an all time high, six to seven times the norm. there is an ongoing heat wave and strong winds. patricia neil has died. she won an oscar in 1963 for her roll opposite paul newman in hud. a few years after word she almost died after suffering three strokes but she regained her ability to speak and walk and was able to resume her film career. she started in the home coming, precursor to waltons and she was also a long time commercial spokesperson for maxwell house coffey and a pain reliever.

she died of lung cancer yesterday at her home in massachusetts. today marks 65 years since the u.s. dropped an atomic bomb on nagasaki japan leading to the end of world war ii. the city held a ceremony today honouring those who lost their lives august 9th, 1945. tens of thousands of people attended, including some survivors of the attack which came three days after the bombing of hiroshima. an estimated 80,000 people were killed in nagasaki, less than a week later, japan surrenders, bringing an end to the war. 5:40 a.m. she wants to make a name for herself. coming up next, a sacramento teen comes up with an alternative way to get around and becomes the ceo of her own business ,,,,,,
